Spring into Summer

Spring is drawing to an end and Summer’s almost here. Throughout the woods, fields and coastland new life is unfolding.

Tall trees are standing proudly erect; their branches laden with fresh green leaves and new seeds. Amongst these leafy havens birds have built their nests and laid their eggs. Young birds are hatching from the safety of these trees and are getting accustomed to the large wonderful world around them. Father and Mother birds are busy collecting food for their youngsters. All around the air is filled with beautiful songs from these dainty little souls. To enter these woodland abodes provide a welcome shade on exhaustingly hot days.

Out in the open fields lambs, foals and calves are growing fast. Ewes graze peacefully, lifting their heads to send back an answering baa to their lambs. Foals trot along behind their mothers, swishing their soft fluffy tails in great excitement. On the hillsides calves frisk with playful joy as their mothers graze in harmony.

Down at the coast wildflowers sway in the cool breeze. The vibrant Pink petals of Sea Pink or Thrift adorn the rocky cliffs. These flowers can be seen between March and September along cliff walks. Trailing their slender stems through sand dunes or shingles, Sea Bindweed can also be spotted throughout the summer months.

So why not get out into nature with your spotter books and nature diaries? Whether you go for a picnic in the woods, or a walk along the cliff paths you’re likely to find some form of life - young animals, birds, or plants – waiting to be discovered.
